The Simic Combine
The Simic Combine , also known as The Biomancers, is Ravnica's steward of nature and the wild; its mission
is to preserve the natural world even as Ravnica's cities continue to grow.
The guild seeks to protect the elements of the plane that are incompatible or mutually exclusive with its overpopulated, urban conditions. The guild uses magic to coax new morphologies from existing creatures, as well as to combine traits from multiple organisms in one. Some of these are unique creatures that can't reproduce. A few multiply and become part of the guild's fabric.
The emotionally distant relationship that the Simic biomancers have with the rest of Ravnica's society makes the common man wary of the guild, thinking of them as crazy mutant makers. Even so, the Simic make up the physicians of Ravnica, so injuries and illnesses are taken to their reputable doctors.
Building a Simic deck relies lots of green and blue ramp.
- Main races: Mutants, Beasts, Oozes, Elves, Trolls, Faeries, Merfolk
- Main classes: Wizards, Druids
The College of Quandrix
Quandrix is the College of Numeromancy at Strixhaven University on the plane of Arcavios.
It is green/blue aligned and
uses Fractals as mascots. The founder of the college is the elder dragon Tanazir Quandrix.
Quandrix mages are ingenious math magicians. They study patterns, fractals, and symmetries underneath reality to command power over the fundamental forces of nature. They'll solve intricate puzzles while contemplating the metaphysical properties of the universe. They can also recite every number of Pi backwards. Their color combination ponders whether the sciences are a feat of ingenuity (the blue perception) or merely a lens to observe nature's majesty (the green perception).
Quandrix is filled with highly intellectual nature-mathematicians. The students of Quandrix wield their power from the fundamental
mathematics of nature, studying fractals, patterns, and symmetries. Quandrix mage-students can summon creatures that are made up of
fractals. They are also able to expand their knowledge and even their physical size through the manipulation and bending of numbers.
Their magic is formulaic, blending math into their spellcasting.
- Main races: Owlins, Bearfolk, Elves, Fractals, Humans, Merfolk, Trolls, Burrogs, Turtles
- Main classes: Wizards, Druids
The founder:
Tanazir Quandrix
Tanazir Quandrix is one of the five elder dragons from Arcavios that founded Strixhaven.
The Quandrix College is named in her honor. She is a master of the magics that govern reality and abstraction.
Tanazir Quandrix is a visionary thinker, constantly considering the ways in which the world could be moved toward a greater state of
order and perfection.
Living in the theoretical, Tanazir is often oblivious to the daily plights of Arcavios's inhabitants. To her,
problems require systemic solutions rather than immediate ones.
She is more concerned with ensuring that reality is shaped to prevent
future strife than with helping in the moment. As such, she is a contradictory mix of hands-off and involved with Strixhaven.
The Aether Rangers
The Aether Rangers is a racing team from Avishkar that competes in the Ghirapur Grand Prix.
The team was founded by Pia Nalaar and is now co-led by her as Chief Engineer and public representative and star
pilot Spitfire.
The Aether Rangers is a team that brings humans, elves, vedalken, and dwarves together to race for the glory of Avishkar and the Avishkar Assembly.
These aether-riding pilots and engineers are a cross-generation, cross-class team of comrades that combine the best of
pre-revolutionary Avishkar with the hope-chasing cohort of the new generation.
In addition to their Grand Prix team, the Aether Rangers field several lower-division squadrons, funded and outfitted by the Avishkar Assembly.
- Main races: Dwarves, Elves, Humans, Loxodons, Merfolk, Vedalken
- Main classes: Rangers, Wizards, Artificers
The River Heralds
The River Heralds are merfolk — a unique species of amphibious humanoids at home throughout the oceans, rivers, lakes, and rainforests of Ixalan.
They stand between seven and eight feet tall, with skin that ranges from deep burgundy, violet, and blue, to bright oranges and yellows.
The Heralds are at home throughout the oceans, rivers, and rainforests of the plane, though they prefer freshwater. They can breathe air or filter oxygen
from the water.
The River Heralds wield the natural,
raw force of nature to protect the world from disaster. Their society consists of nine tribes, each associated with a tributary of the Great River.
The myriad tribes of the River Heralds do share many cultural, spiritual, and practical affinities, but they are not united — though after the horror
of the invasion, this may change. The tribes are fragmented into bands, which are in constant competition with each other for primacy and control of
the richest territory. A merfolk band consists of about a dozen individuals, led by a shaman called a Shaper.
- Main races: Merfolk
- Main classes: Warriors, Shamans, Druids
